CSUN Students
Registration

To qualify as a matriculated CSUN student for winter enrollment purposes, you must be formally admitted to and enrolled in a CSUN degree, credit certificate, or credential program. See more student statuses.

Student Statuses

First Time Freshman

You are not eligible for Winter Term courses.

Incoming Transfer Student

You are eligible for Winter Term courses prior to your first semester. We recommend that you speak with your academic advisor and review your Degree Progress Report before enrolling. Consult the First-Time Transfer Checklist for information on academic advising and degree planning tools.

More than 130 academic units

If you have earned more than 130 academic units and have not yet applied for graduation, you will have a registration hold that will not allow you to register for any term. Students with such a hold on their record must contact the associate dean in the academic college of their major.

Recent Graduate

If you have recently graduated or will graduate in Fall 2015, you must enroll in Winter Term as a Visiting Student.

Academically Disqualified

Students in disqualified status must enroll as a Visiting Student. Disqualified students may use Winter Term grades at CSUN or elsewhere to meet academic requirements and possibly apply for readmission. For limits on degree-applicable credits, see: Applying Credit to a CSUN Degree.

CSU Student

If you are a CSU-system student, you must enroll as a Visiting Student.

Enrollment Restrictions

Maximum Unit Load: 4 units. The 4 unit restriction is applied to the term as a whole. Students in good standing may request additional units, up to a maximum of 6 units, by completing the Extra Unit Authorization form.

Prior to enrolling in courses, students should review their student portal and clear any registration holds that would block enrollment.

Repeating Courses

Students registered in a CSUN course in Fall Semester 2022 cannot register to repeat that course during Winter Term 2023 until grades for the Fall Semester are posted. If grades for Fall Semester 2022 are not posted in time for the student to register for Winter Term 2023, the student will have to wait until Spring Semester 2023 to repeat the course.

Third Repeat: Enrolling in an individual course for the third time is generally not permitted. For exceptions, consult your academic advisor and complete the Third Repeat Approval Request (PDF).
