Who can enroll?
- CSUN Alumni
- Those who are not currently admitted and enrolled in a degree or certificate program at CSUN
- Visiting international students
- Current CSUN students can only enroll in Open University during Winter Session.
Student enrollment is on a space available basis. Non-restrictive registration is after CSUN admitted students are given a reasonable first opportunity to register. Please see the Calendar for when you are able to enroll in classes.

After a one-time enrollment, you can return to take additional courses in future terms without needing to sign up again. All the courses you complete through this program will appear on your official CSUN transcript, ensuring that your educational achievements are formally recognized. These courses are also transferable to other institutions and can be applied towards a CSUN degree if you decide to pursue one in the future.
Year-Round Access and Online Convenience – The CSUN Open University program operates year-round, offering courses in various formats to fit your schedule. During the Winter Term and Summer Sessions, you can take fully online courses, giving you the flexibility to learn from anywhere. Additionally, during the Fall and Spring semesters, you can choose from online, in-person, and hybrid course options.

Open University provides year-round access to CSUN courses offered in Fall Semester, Spring Semester, Winter Term, and Summer Session. Enjoy the convenience of no formal application or university admission process, with courses available both on campus and online. Earn up to 24 transferable units towards a bachelor’s degree and 9 units towards a master’s degree, while enjoying full access to the university library and resources.
