Open University allows former CSUN students the ability to enroll in CSUN's Fall Semester, Spring Semester, Winter Session and Summer Sessions.
CSUN Alum
If you are a recent graduate or alumni of CSUN, you are eligible to enroll in courses through Open University.
Note that matriculated CSUN students have enrollment priority. Therefore, enrollment is on a space available basis only.
How to Get Started
Former CSUN Students will not need to create a new account. To enroll, you will log into myNorthridge Portal, and use your CSUN user ID and password. If you need help accessing your account, please contact CSUN IT for assistance.
Class Search
To search for classes, visit the CSUN Class Search page.
Prerequisites
A prerequisite is a course or condition that must be completed/met prior to enrollment in another specified course.
Permission Numbers
All Open University students are required to obtain and use a permission number to enroll themselves in any course on a space available basis. Helpful tip: Look for sections that have open seats and request permission numbers for alternate sections.
To request a permission number, follow the steps below:
- Based upon your selected class, note the department in which it is being offered
- Email the department using the Department Directory
- Introduce yourself as a CSUN Alum in the subject line
- Include the class number and information (ex: ART 100 #12345)
- If there is a prerequisite for the course, include a copy of your unofficial transcript.
If you receive a permission number, follow the How To Register and Enroll in Classes steps.
Wait List
The CSUN wait list feature is not available for Open University students. This feature is only designed for current CSUN students.
Enrollment Requirements
Maximum Unit Load:
- Undergraduate Students: 13 units
- Graduate Students: 19 units
Students in good standing may request additional units over the Fall and Spring maximum unit load, by completing the Extra Unit Authorization form.

U.S. Military Veterans or Service Members
If you are a U.S. Military Veteran or a Service Member, please contact the CSUN Veterans Affairs Office at (818) 677-5928 or email veteransmail@csun.edu.
