All international students who hold F-1 visas are required to obtain and maintain health insurance coverage during their period of enrollment. This coverage must include the following:

  • Medical and hospital benefits of at least $100,000 USD per accident or illness
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation coverage of at least $30,000 USD

International students enrolled in Tseng College’s IPP (International Programs & Partnerships) programs: 

  • Please submit proof of health insurance coverage to Yukiko Bryant, yukiko.bryant@csun.edu.
    Deadline: 2 weeks prior to Orientation


CSUN Health Insurance Policy

A policy can be purchased online at United Healthcare Student Resources and must be paid separately from your tuition. This insurance is only available to international students.

  1. Go to www.uhcsr.com
  2. Type CSUN in the school search box
  3. Scroll down to “Medical – Low Student Only Plan” and click “Explore Policy”
  4. On the bottom right corner, click “Get Started”
  5. On Step 1 – Account Status, click “Continue as a Guest”
  6. For the Insurance Category, choose “SAC – Semester at CSUN (Tseng College)” and enter CSUN’s zip code: 91330. Select “I have read all applicable plan documents” and click “Next”
  7. Choose the term you're enrolling for: Annual (for Fall and Spring), Fall semester only or Spring semester only, and click “Next”
  8. Complete your personal information. Do not enter a US SSN (Social Security Number). For “School Assigned ID,” enter your 9-digit CSUN ID number.
  9. Review your purchase and complete payment with a credit card or electronic check


Purchasing an external policy

International students enrolled in Tseng College’s IPP (International Programs & Partnerships) programs are allowed to purchase health insurance coverage from a company of their choice in the United States or in their home country.

  • If you purchase an external policy, please provide a receipt or a letter from the insurance company, showing your full name, dates of coverage, and verification that the policy meets the above requirements.
  • For policies purchased in countries other than the United States: proof of coverage must be translated in English and all relevant amounts must be in U.S. dollars.
