Through the Intensive English Program's (IEP) Conditional Admission plan, students can be pre-approved for admission to an undergraduate- or graduate-degree program of their choice – at CSUN or a partnering institution* – even if they have not yet met the English-language proficiency requirements for admission to these institutions.

How Conditional Admission Works

STEP 1

Apply to IEP with Conditional Admission for desired session.

Visit the program requirements page for information about all documents REQUIRED to be submitted at the time of the online application.

If unable to attach required documents to the application, then email iep@csun.edu.

STEP 2

IMMEDIATELY, submit an online CSUN application through CSU Mentor for the desired degree program offered by CSUN*.

To browse a complete list of CUSN degree programs, visit the following sites:

Note:

  • Document requirements for graduate and certificate programs may vary. See program information in the above link for details.
  • NOT all graduate degree and certificate programs are open for conditional admission. Contact iep@csun.edu for an updated list.
  • After a semester's admissions cycle has closed, some majors may still be accepting students. Look for these exceptions in the Admissions Calendar.
STEP 3

If qualified, applicant will receive TWO letters in their acceptance packet:

  1. IEP Admission Letter
  2. CSUN Conditional Admission Letter with "pre-approved" status
STEP 4

Review the visa requirements and related information page for visa requirements, essential documents, steps, and other important information.

STEP 5

Attend orientation and IEP classes. See Upon Arrival to the US.

STEP 6

Upon completing the current IEP session, achieve either the required English-language proficiency score (see information below) OR receive approval for the TOEFL waiver (see information below), to be admitted into the "pre-approved" CSUN degree program.

For admission questions, please contact us by email at iep@csun.edu or by phone at 818-677-2504.

* For a list and details about applying to partnering institutions, visit our Apply page.

On-Campus Housing for International Programs and Partnerships (IPP) Students

IPP CSUN Housing offers convenient, apartment-style accommodations that provide visiting students with the opportunity to live in the same on-campus community with regular university students. Students in on-campus housing become familiar with the campus more quickly, meet other students more easily and take part in the many social and recreational activities organized by both IPP Housing and CSUN housing.
