The Intensive English Program at California State University, Northridge will close in August 2025. The IEP Summer 2025 session will be our last session. Until then, we are fully committed in helping our current students finish their programs and transition smoothly to other educational opportunities. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners, students, faculty, and staff for their constant support over the years.

With more than 38 years of experience, California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is an internationally recognized provider of English-language and college-preparation instruction. CSUN's Intensive English Program (IEP) prepares students for successful university study and effective English communication.

The IEP is an immersive English program with:

  • State-of-the-art language lessons
  • Small class sizes (typically 15 to 18 students)
  • Customizable content and elective classes
  • Experienced faculty with advanced degrees
  • Digital badges awarded for professional skills and achievements
  • American cultural activities
  • Access to a university campus and student life

The IEP Program benefits

  • Conditional (pre-approved) admission to CSUN programs prior to students meeting the English-language proficiency admission requirements;
  • Preparation for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations;
  • TOEFL waivers, which enable IEP students who have "pre-approved conditional admission" status and have completed the IEP's University Bridge level with a minimum cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.0 to enter approved degree programs of their choice at CSUN - or a partnering institution - without taking the TOEFL;
  • One-on-one tutoring sessions, free of charge; and
  • For students in the IEP's Advanced and University Bridge levels - the option of substituting university-credit courses for one or more IEP classes. This feature enables eligible students to begin working on their undergraduate or graduate degrees at CSUN while still enrolled in the IEP.
