How to Register


Summer Term 2009 Session Dates:

Session 1: May 26-August 18 (12 weeks)
Session 2: May 26-July 7 (6 weeks)
Session 3: July 8-August 18 (6 weeks)

You can select from the courses offered at CSUN by going to the "Quicklinks" at www.csun.edu/anr/soc/ and selecting the "Class Search". The registration process is easy; University admission is not required. These classes are offered on a space-available basis only. We cannot guarantee a space or that you will be accepted into any class.

 


 

Summer is an exciting time at CSUN. With hundreds of University credit courses offered in three separate sessions. Open University Program, Summer 2009 offers a wide range of study opportunities. Most CSUN academic departments are represented in the Open University Summer Term.

Summer 2009 Open University serves a variety of educational needs for varying groups, including college and university students, graduating high school students, elementary and secondary school teachers, business professionals and executives, and lifelong learners from the community.

CSUN, a cosmopolitan campus known for its distinguished faculty and excellent academic programs, is a modern state-of-the-art university. Facilities include the impressive Oviatt Library with more than 1.25 million books and periodicals; computer centers; high-tech laboratories; and sports, athletic and recreational facilities. CSUN is within a 30-minute drive to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Universal Studios, Santa Monica, malls, museums and the Pacific Ocean.

Participation in The Tseng College’s Summer Open University Program does not constitute admission to the University. If you wish to be considered for admission to the University, please visit Admissions and Records in Bayramian Hall, main lobby, or see A & R Web site.

  • Non-matriculated students may apply (with the approval of the relevant department chair) a maximum of 24 units towards a bachelor’s degree and 9 units towards a master’s degree should a non-matriculated student later matriculate into a state-supported or self-supported degree or credit certificate program at CSUN.
  • Grades received in the Summer Open University Program become part of a student’s academic record and are included in the student’s overall grade point average.
  • All students enrolling in the Summer Open University Program are held to the rules and regulations governing programs and courses offered through CSUN and The Tseng College. Academic integrity/honesty is expected in all courses.

Summer 2009 Open University Students may start registering early, before the summer sessions start. There will also be open registration times with deadlines the first day of each session.

Registration is on a space available basis only. Payment is due at the time of registration.

Permission Numbers

What Are Permission Numbers and What Are They Used For?

Permission numbers replace written approval from instructors. Check the chart below for appropriate dates.

 

Can I Reuse a Permission Number?

Permission numbers can be reused by students until the enrollment for their class is completed.

 

How Long Is A Permission Number Valid?

All unused permission numbers become inactive on Friday of the second week of the semester.

NOTE: Whenever a student drops a class, the refund schedule applies. This is true even if the student’s intention is to swap the dropped class for another class. It is the responsibility of the student who is no longer attending classes to withdraw formally from the courses and the University. Otherwise, the instructor will assign a grade of “U” which counts as a grade of “F” in computing grade point averages. Medical withdrawals will be granted solely for established medical purposes. The Koltz Student Health Center is responsible for medical withdrawals.

Holiday Observance: May 25 Holiday; all offices closed; no instruction (Observance: Memorial Day); July 3 Holiday; all offices closed; no instruction (Observance: Independence Day)


Refunds

Once class has begun for Summer 2009 Open University, a full refund is not available. Sixty-five percent (65%) of the fees collected will be refunded until the end of the second week of the semester. After the second week of the semester there will be no refunds. If a refund is due, resulting as a credit on your account, you will automatically receive a refund; for credit card transactions on the Web, look for the credit on your credit card statement within three weeks. For cash, check or credit card transactions paid to the cashier on campus, you will receive a check within three weeks. Refunds are not based on the date a student stops attending class. Refunds are calculated on the basis of the date you drop classes on-line or submit the completed Change of Schedule Petition to The Tseng College office, Bookstore Complex, Room 100.


Drop

The following does not constitute an official drop, nor do such actions diminish your financial obligation to CSUN for the Open University Program:

  1. Stopping payment
  2. Not attending class
  3. Merely notifying the instructor


Online Courses for Summer 2009

Linked below are the 2009 Classes that are fully online and therefore accessible to international students. Some of these online are asynchronous (meaning students may access the course material, participate in class discussions, and complete course assignments at any time of the day or night) and some synchronous courses (students are expected to participate in course discussions and/or complete assignments at specific days and times). Class times for the synchronous courses are listed in Pacific Standard Time (PST).
