Master of Arts in Psychology: Behavioral Clinical Psychology

How To Apply

Application Deadlines

All materials must be received in our offices by the following dates.

priority deadline* final deadline** online application
December 5, 2014 January 5, 2015 Apply

*Priority deadline: Applications submitted by this deadline are more likely to be reviewed for program consideration. In addition, applicants submitting by this deadline have more time to address any incomplete or missing components of their application before the final application deadline review in early 2015.

**Final deadline: All applications must be submitted and completed in full by this deadline, including all required application components. Applicants who wait until this date to submit their applications run the risk of their applications remaining incomplete and thus not being reviewed for program consideration. In addition, spaces in the cohort are limited and not all qualified applicants can be admitted into the program each year, thus late applicants may not be admissible due to program space limitations.

Application Instructions

STEP 1

Submit online:

Online application, including a statement of purpose (approximately two pages, maximum 1000 words, double-spaced, with 12 point font) describing your interest in this master's program in Behavioral Clinical Psychology and how enrollment in the program will contribute to your professional and personal growth and success. Your statement of purpose will be uploaded to your application, as below.

In addition, the material(s) listed below will be required as part of your application. You will be given an opportunity to access, complete, and upload the following required document(s) as part of your online application:

  1. Resume

Note that the online application used for the BCP program is a general application used by all programs in the Tseng College. Some of the questions on the application may not be directly applicable to the BCP program (e.g., questions about transferrable undergraduate units; questions about family income; questions about having an RN license) but are questions required by the state or federal government. Answering these questions with a “Decline to State” response will not negatively impact your application to this program in any way.

Complete and submit the online Application as soon as possible. Doing so will assure that your application is included in the applicant pool and that Admissions is aware of your application and can track additional materials as they arrive.

STEP 2

Send these items in one package, directly to CSUN:

  • Original or certified copies of all official academic records/transcripts from all academic institutions you have attended in the past, not just from institutions at which you earned a degree. (If you attended CSUN you do not need to request CSUN transcripts; we will acquire your CSUN records for your application.)
    • Do not open the envelopes in which transcripts arrive; forward all sealed envelopes to CSUN.

All items must be received at CSUN by the application deadline date in order to be considered for review.

Send items to the exact address below. Using other CSUN addresses will result in your application not being received at the correct location and can delay the application process thus omitting your application from the pool of complete, on-time applications.

STEP 3

If applicable*, arrange for your GRE scores to be sent to CSUN electronically:

* All applicants with a cumulative undergraduate GPA less than 3.00 are required to submit GRE General Exam scores to CSUN in order to be reviewed as an applicant for this program.

An official copy of your GRE scores must be sent directly to CSUN electronically from ETS. CSUN’s school code for receipt of electronic GRE scores is: 4707.

Note that GRE scores must be submitted by the application deadline date for your application to be considered for review.

STEP 4

Arrange for three recent letters of recommendation (preferably from those who can comment on your clinical/behavioral work or related coursework) plus a required waiver form (below) to be EMAILED on your behalf.

Provide this Waive Access form to each of your three recommenders to include with their letter of recommendation. This form must accompany all letters of recommendation. Be sure you fully complete and sign your Waiver form before you send it to your recommenders. Each recommender is to sign the Waiver form before emailing it along his/her letter of recommendation to CSUN.

Tip: Complete, save, and email your waiver form to each of your recommenders so he/she does not have to scan it.

Recommenders (not you, the applicant) should EMAIL their letter of recommendation along with the waiver directly to this email: barb.frye@csun.edu and emails should use the Subject line “BCP Academic Faculty Committee”.

All letters of recommendation must be received at CSUN by the application deadline date to be considered for review.

STEP 5

Activate your CSUN online access and check your CSUN email account regularly.

You are issued a CSUN email account when you apply to the University. Your CSUN email account serves as your official email account with the University. This means that the University will use it for official communications and you are responsible for monitoring this account. All updates on your application status will be sent to your CSUN email account only.

You should receive a letter from Admissions and Records with your CSUN User ID/Username, initial password, and CSUN email address roughly one week after submission of your application. More information about activating your account is available in the online application to this program. You may use the information below to access your CSUN account for the first time and to log into your CSUN email.
