For International Students

CSUN is one of the nation's largest providers of English-language and college-preparation instruction. Through the Tseng College's Intensive English and University Pathway programs, five types of study are available to visiting international students: the Intensive English Program, the Intensive English with Conditional Admission Program, the Semester at CSUN Program, Short-Term and Custom Programs, and access to online courses through the Open University program. International students may also qualify for admission to most CSUN online degree programs offered through The Tseng College.

International Contract Programs

CSUN, through the Tseng College, has decades of experience developing customized programs for international clients, including offering courses, programs and seminars to teachers and administrators in overseas schools. Currently, the Tseng College has a partnership to develop a new university, Al Buraimi University College (BUC), in Oman.

Led by Tseng College dean Joyce Feucht-Haviar, CSUN faculty helped to create BUC's curriculum, shape its library collection and services, and advise on hiring and faculty development. BUC is now working with CSUN to expand its curriculum and to start an International Graduate Center on its campus. The quality of the education offered at this center will meet CSUN standards, enabling graduates to complete their study at CSUN or another American university.

CSUN Programs and Courses Available to International Partners

Through the Tseng College,  CSUN offers its international partners a wide range of academic degree and certificate programs; professional development courses and training programs; credit courses that complement the curricula of partnering institutions; credit courses for teachers and administrators at pre-kindergarten to grade-16 educational organizations; and English-language and college-preparation programs for institution-sponsored students.

Degree Programs

The Tseng College offers a growing number of CSUN degree programs completely online. For international institutions with groups of 25 or more qualified students, arrangements can be made to offer certain program components live at the client's site as well. The Tseng College can also work with international partners to identify needs and create custom-designed programs at the graduate or undergraduate level for on-site, online or hybrid delivery.

Certificate Programs

The Tseng College offers two types of certificate programs: graduate-credit and advanced-professional development. As with CSUN degree programs, the content and modes of delivery of the certificate programs can be customized to meet the needs of international partners.

  • Graduate-credit certificate programs: These programs are designed for graduate students or post-degree professionals who are seeking advanced study opportunities in areas of importance to their careers. Program participants earn university credits. Many of these programs are linked to CSUN master's degrees, so that credits earned in the certificate program can be applied toward graduate-degree requirements. These certificate programs also afford those who already hold master's degrees an opportunity to add a second area of professional expertise at the post-graduate level.
  • Advanced professional-development certificate programs: Participants in CSUN advanced professional development certificate programs earn continuing education units (CEUs) to satisfy the requirement for a CSUN Certificate in Advanced Professional Development in an area of career specialization.

Professional Development Courses and Training Programs

In addition to degree and certificate programs, CSUN offers a wealth of professional development and training programs in a variety of formats to meet employer needs. These can range from a single-session (e.g., a one-day professional seminar) to a series of sessions scheduled over several months.

All professional development and training offerings are designed in collaboration with university faculty, accomplished practitioners and recognized experts in their fields. All aspects of these programs – from course content and instructional strategy to format and delivery mode – are tailored to meet specified learning objectives.

Credit Courses to Complement a Partner Institution's Curriculum

Through the Tseng College, CSUN credit courses can be made available to partner institutions. Delivery of these courses can be through the partnering institution's own qualified instructors (approval by the appropriate CSUN academic department is required) or through CSUN faculty members.
