The CSUN program utilizes a cohort model in which a group of students moves through the program together in a predetermined sequence from the start of the program through fulfillment of the degree requirements and graduation.
You'll communicate easily with faculty and other students in your cohort to have your questions answered, discuss course work, and offer (and receive) advice on the best way to complete assignments or clarify important points.
The cohort approach is also valuable because each succeeding course builds on what was covered in earlier courses. Coursework is integrated and connected so students are able to see the larger view of graduate tax education rather than simply a set of separate courses.
Student enrollment is guaranteed in every class, and the class schedule is set for the entire program. In comparison with other programs composed of part-time students, the cohort model increases retention and graduation rates among working adults.
The CSUN cohort-based degree program is planned for the mid-career adult who is studying part-time while working and/or fulfilling personal/family obligations. It is sometimes difficult for mid-career, part-time students to feel a part of the university's academic community making access to the support services of the traditional academic community difficult. The cohort model, however, provides a strong sense of belonging to a consistent academic community in one's chosen major. In addition, increased retention rates and faster degree completion are results of participation in a cohort. Finally, because the program is predetermined, students find it easier to plan ahead to manage their schedules, adding to the completion success rate of participants in cohort programs.
Students will be eligible for a CSUN library cards after admission to the program. The full resources of the University Library at CSUN will be available to students admitted to the University. In addition to the shelved resources, the library's extensive electronic resources including electronic journals, newspapers, databases and online books as well as encyclopedias, together with online assistance from librarians, are accessible through the Internet on a 24/7 basis.
"This program enables graduates to hone their abilities to identify, research and effectively communicate solutions to challenging tax problems within an environment that fosters professional relationships with other students as well as with prominent and leading faculty practitioners."
