Open University – Your Gateway to the University
Anyone who is not enrolled in a CSUN degree or credential program may enroll in virtually any regular university class – with instructor approval – through Open University.

Open University allows you to:

  • Enjoy post-degree study for intellectual growth and personal satisfaction
  • Explore areas of study in-depth as disciplines and fields change
  • Add new areas of expertise
  • Prepare for a career change
  • Test your academic ability in a university setting
  • Earn those last few credits required to finish your degree

The Open University registration process is now easier than ever. The registration period for Spring Term 2004 is February 2-20. For complete information, go to www.csun.edu/exl/openuni.htm or call (818) 677-CSUN to receive a brochure.

Note: International students may participate in the Open University program on a full-time basis through the College of Extended Learning’s Intensive English Program. For information on this internationally renowned program, go to www.csun.edu/iep.

Newly Revised! Human Resources Management Certificate Program
ExL recently revised the curriculum of this professional development certificate program to focus more closely on the core competencies identified as essential for success in today’s HR environments by the Human Resources Certification Institute of the Society for Human Resources Management. Some classes have been lengthened so that more material can be covered. A new course – The Business of Human Resources Management (see Spring 2004 Catalog, below) – has been added to explore the often-overlooked strategic links between human resources and other areas of fiscal responsibility within an organization. For more information on the program, go to www.csun.edu/exl/program or contact Carla Bryant at (818) 677-3922 or Carla.Bryant@csun.edu.

Out and About in “Arcadian L.A.
An “arcadia,” according to Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, is an idyllic “region of simple pleasure and quiet.” Was Los Angeles ever thus? In the opinion of architectural historian Marc Jacob Rochlin, author of Arcadian L.A., a trio of private estates created by women in the early part of the 20th century qualified for this description. Decide for yourself. Travel with Rochlin to Malibu and, yes, Arcadia to experience what remains of two of Southern California ’s most distinctive personal showplaces. (See Spring 2004 Catalog, below.)

Date: 3 meetings: lecture, Saturday, April 17; two field trips, Saturdays, April 24 and May 1

Fee: $125
