Cohort Program Update |
||
| Courses in CSUN’s first Master of Public Administration degree program to be offered in cohort format* started in Santa Barbara County on August 12. Most of the 25 participants are employed by local public agencies or nonprofit organizations that work with the public sector. City and county agencies represented include the Departments of Child Support Services, Fire, Health, Housing and Community Development, Mental Health, Parks and Recreation, and Probation. The anticipated graduation date for the first MPA cohort is spring 2006. A second MPA cohort is being developed to start at College of the Canyons (Santa Clarita) in February 2005. A third cohort will start at the Department of Public Works in Alhambra in fall 2005. For more information, contact Henrik.Minassians@csun.edu, MPA cohort program director at The Tseng College. * In cohort programs, students are admitted as a group and take courses in the same sequence. Advantages of this approach include instruction that builds more directly on prior courses and the creation of a stronger “community of learning” among cohort members and faculty than is possible in typical degree programs. As a result, cohort programs often increase student retention and speed time to successful degree completion. |
