Starting on Monday, June 20, when you register for a Tseng College course online, you will be able to pay your course fee via “electronic check.” This requires no setting-up with your bank. All you have to do is select “Pay by electronic check” from the menu of online payment options (the other option is your credit card) and key in the numbers that appear on the bottom of your check.
FYI, on the same date, CSUN will begin charging regular university students a
“convenience fee” for enrolling with credit cards or electronic checks. This
fee, however, will not be charged to Tseng College students.
A reception will be held at Glendale Community College on June 22 (5 to 6:30 p.m.) to celebrate the new collaboration between The Tseng College and GCC. This venture will bring CSUN master’s and bachelor’s degree-completion programs to the Glendale campus. (See the May issue of the Insider for more information on the first program: a B.S. in Business Administration.)
The event will include a planetarium show (two seatings: 5 and 5:30 p.m.) followed by a reception and an overview of the new programs. The event is free, but advance reservations are necessary. To make your reservation and obtain parking information, call (818) 677-7131 by Monday, June 20.
CSUN’s Summer Session 3 starts June 27 and runs through August 5. Students may register online through June 26.
In the fall, The Tseng College plans to launch a series of courses designed to present the concepts and tools necessary for those who participate in or expect to lead successful lean management initiatives for their organizations. During the summer, we will be offering two introductory seminars to help potential students determine whether this series is right for them. The seminars are scheduled for July 15 and Aug. 26, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The $49 fee includes a CD ROM containing information that will be useful for anyone who works in production or quality management. For information, call (818) 677-3916. To register, call (818) 677-2504.
Career opportunities are rapidly multiplying in the field of knowledge
management, which focuses on the strategic process through which an organization
maximizes value from its intellectual and knowledge-based assets. CSUN is about
to become the first university in the western United States to offer an advanced
degree in this exciting new field.
The program will be in cohort
format (i.e., participants enter as a group and proceed through the coursework
together), beginning in December 2005 (orientation week will be held during
early December; courses begin in January 2006) . Those interested in learning
more are encouraged to contact Evan Scheffel at (818) 677-7714 or
evan.scheffel@csun.edu. The first
online cohort is scheduled to begin in December 2006.
Veronica Grant, executive assistant to CSUN’s Advancement Vice President Judy
Knudson, made campus history in May when she became the first employee to
receive the university’s top merit honor, the “Cal State Northridge Presidential
Award.” One of the projects that earned Grant this exceptional recognition was
coordination of the May 2000 redesign of the CSUN Web site and subsequent
publication and management of several of the site’s pages. We mention this in
the Insider because Grant honed her Web-page design and management skills
through the Tseng College’s Web-Page Design certificate program. She earned her
certificate with distinction in August 2003.
Note: The Tseng College no longer offers this particular certificate program.
For information on current digital media offerings, please call (818) 677-3911.
Cohort #3 of The Tseng College’s online Communication Disorders and Sciences
master’s degree program in speech-language
pathology was – with 27 students – the largest graduating class since the
start of the online, cohort-format program in 2000. This group, which held its
graduation reception on campus on June 2, achieved a 95 percent first-time pass
rate on the national Praxis examination. It also experienced the lowest
attrition rate of the first three cohorts, with only one student leaving the
program before completing the course work.
Also graduating on June 2 was one of the largest graduating classes in the
29-year history of CSUN’s MPA program. MPA students constitute the largest
contingent of graduates in the university’s College of Social and Behavioral
Sciences, for which The Tseng College administrates this program.
