Are there things you don't know how to do on your computer? If you are a retired or semi-retired person, The Sage Society, CSUN's learning-in-retirement organization can help. The spring session of its popular six-week "Senior Computers" course starts on Jan. 4. Now in its 17th year, the class meets on the CSUN campus from 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Personalized instruction is offered by SAGE volunteers, so the fee is still only $25. For additional information or to enroll, call Morrie Cutler at (818) 831-5064. You can also get a feel for what the classroom experience is like by reading "Dropping in on Senior Computers" in the Fall 2005 ExL Report (PDF, page 5).
Jerry Bobrow, Ph.D., founder of a test-preparation company that serves CSUN and numerous other California State Universities, died in November at the age of 59 after a two-year battle with cancer. Bobrow earned a master's degree in mathematics from CSUN and in 1973 founded Bobrow Test Preparation Services to help CSUN students prepare for college standardized tests. He also developed test-preparation programs used statewide by school districts, offices of education and the California Teachers Association. Bobrow wrote numerous guides for test takers, including Barron's How to Prepare for the LSAT, and Cliff's Preparation Guides for the CBEST, GMAT, GRE and SAT. His test-preparation programs, administered through CSUN's Tseng College, have helped thousands of students learn both test-taking strategies and relevant subject matter.
From Monday, Dec. 17, through Friday, Dec. 21, the Oviatt Library will be on "Vacation Schedule," i.e., open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays only. The library will be closed during the year-end holiday recess (see below).
The campus will be closed from Sunday, Dec. 23, through Tuesday, Jan.1, for the winter holiday recess. Warmest wishes for a safe and joyful holiday season and a professionally rewarding 2008 from the faculty and staff of The Tseng College.
