Veterans' Day Observance

Photo of an elderly man with medals and red beret, and two elderly women, with a U.S. flag in the background. On Friday, Nov. 10, the campus will be closed in observance of Veterans' Day, and no classes will be held. Veterans' Day honors those who served honorably in the military in wartime or peacetime. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans' Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge their contributions to the nation's security, and to underscore the fact that all those who served – i.e., not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty. Veteran's Day is traditionally observed on Nov. 11. However, if Veterans' Day falls on a Saturday – as it does this year – the holiday for government workers is observed on the preceding Friday.
