For the first time, international students participating in this fall's Intensive English Program will be able to live on-campus instead of staying with relatives or seeking other "home stay" arrangements after their arrival in Los Angeles. The university has provided space for 40 IEP students in one of its dormitory buildings in response to the recent growth of the program, which CSUN offers through The Tseng College. Two hundred fifteen students were enrolled in the 2006 IEP summer term, up from 158 students in summer 2005.
The CSUN dormitory building consists of 172 two-bedroom, apartment-style units, each designed to accommodate four persons. IEP students are expected to benefit both scholastically and socially from being part of the CSUN campus community. Additional benefits include the security of university housing and the ability to make arrangements before the semester starts.
The 16-week series of classes provides English-language instruction for international students desiring to enter American colleges or universities or improve their English skills for career purposes. Fall 2006 classes begin Aug. 22. For more information, contact the IEP office at Ext. 3923. For housing information, e-mail iepcsunhousing@csun.edu or call (818) 677-4573.
