There are just a couple of spaces available for the ExL's spring Exploring California's Vineyards wine tour on April 22. You don't have to be a member of The SAGE Society, CSUN's learning-in-retirement organization, to participate in its next special event outing – a trip to the Southwest Museum of Los Angeles at Mt. Washington on Sat., April 29. The group will travel to the museum via Metrorail. After the tour, the group will proceed via public transportation to Chinatown for lunch. The fee for the museum tour is $5. Participants pay for their own transportation and meal. The next test prep course for the new SAT (college/university entrance exam) starts April 29. The LSAT test prep course for those wishing to go to law school starts May 13. For more details, see our list of Test Preparation courses.
In August, CSUN will launch two bachelor's degree-completion programs designed for working adults – Business Administration with an Emphasis in Management and Liberal Studies with an Emphasis in General Studies – at Glendale College [map] in August. Presentations for prospective students will be held for both programs from 4 to 6 p.m. on May 9 at Glendale College. The university's academic advisors and ExL's program director will be on hand to answer questions and provide assistance with the application process. You are invited to attend The SAGE Society's next Forum at the Porter Valley Country Club on Friday, May 12. The event will feature a presentation on Islam by Amir Hussain, former associate professor of religious studies at CSUN and now associate professor of theological studies at Loyola Marymount University. The event includes a luncheon and a question-and-answer session following the presentation. The fee is $25 for nonmembers. Reservations are required. On April 3, the Los Angeles Times reported on the frustration of immigrants trying to navigate California's civil court system whose civil rights are jeopardized by the current shortage of trained interpreters. If you are bilingual in Spanish and English or Armenian and English, you could be earning $265 per day in the state court system while performing a much-needed service to the community. You can learn more about this and other local career opportunities for interpreters by attending ExL's next orientation for potential interpreters on Sat., May 20, from 9-11:30 a.m. This event is free, but registration is required.
