Dr. Goetz has spent 30 years as a law professor and bar exam expert, and was the founding dean and president of Concord Law School, the nation’s first fully online nationally accredited law school. He earned his doctorate in Education, and his unique understanding and application of traditional and modern teaching philosophies have established him as an innovator for career-oriented students who wish to achieve academic and professional advancement. In 2002, Dr. Goetz’s contributions to the field of distance education were recognized by the presentation of the Distance Education and Training Council’s Distinguished Recognition Award.
Dr. Goetz has been a member of the California State Bar since 1979, and actively mediates litigated cases throughout Los Angeles and Ventura county privately as well as for the Superior Courts. Additionally he serves as a mediator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association and also arbitrates cases for FINRA, the self-regulatory agency that oversees securities brokers and dealers. Dr. Goetz is a graduate of the California State University system (San Diego State University) who received his M.B.A. at Pepperdine University (1990), his J.D. from Boston University (1979), and his Ph.D. in Education from Capella University (2006).
Jan Frankel Schau, Esq., former president: Southern California Mediation Association

After more than 20 years of litigation practice, Jan Frankel Schau began working as a “neutral” in 2001 and has mediated nearly 1,000 litigated cases, specializing in employment and business disputes as well as personal injury, professional negligence and tort matters. As a seasoned mediator, Jan Frankel Schau is a popular presenter and guest lecturer at Pepperdine University’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, UCLA’s Law School and USC’s School of Law, as well as with law firms and Bar Associations, including the State Bar of California and the American Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Section’s Annual Conferences. Ms. Schau studied International Relations and Diplomacy at Pomona College in Claremont, earning her B.A. in 1978 and graduated with Honor’s from Loyola Law School in 1981.
Schau has been actively involved in creating and overseeing changes within the professional alternative dispute resolution community in California, serving as Chair of the ADR Committee and a trustee of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, President of the Southern California Mediation Association; and currently as an appointed member of the California State Bar’s ADR Section. Ms. Schau is a panel neutral with ADR Services and also serves as an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, Kaiser Hospital and FINRA, the self-regulatory agency that oversees securities brokers and dealers. Ms. Schau has also been appointed as a Personnel Hearing Officer for the City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles and L.A. Unified School District. She is a frequently published author and has recently been recognized as a “volunteer of the year” with the Los Angeles Superior Court, where she continues to mediate litigated disputes through the volunteer and party select panel of neutrals. Among her most recent accolades, Ms. Schau was inducted in 2009 as a Member of the International Academy of Mediators.
Kari Fletcher, M.A.
MCR 909: Diversity and Cross-Cultural Communications for Conflict Resolution
Kari Fletcher possesses a Master’s degree in International & Intercultural Management, is an organizational consultant, educator (higher education, community education and K-12), and community organizer. Kari has had extensive experience and training in mediation and conflict resolution, especially in the area of community-based conflict resolution, with diverse populations in a myriad of formal and informal settings. Over the past 20 years, Fletcher has lived and worked in Asia, Europe and throughout various regions of the United States, in both rural and urban settings, where she has worked as an advocate, educator, service provider and community organizer with disenfranchised populations.
Brent J. Rosenbaum, B.A.

Brent J. Rosenbaum is a Mediation and Arbitration Professional throughout California. Mr. Rosenbaum mediates for both the Los Angeles and Ventura Superior Courts. He specializes in the area of Employment Mediation with extensive work as an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Mediator. In addition, Mr. Rosenbaum mediates the sensitive issues of Eldercare Mediation and Community-Based Conflict Resolution. He serves as an Arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, "FINRA," the State Bar of California, and for the Ventura County Bar Association. Mr. Rosenbaum is known for his professionalism, humor, insight and passion for the process of conflict resolution. The Superior Courts and Regional Dispute Resolution Organizations have recognized him for his exceptional commitment and service to the community.
