This 10 CEU (100 hour) certificate program combines theory with application and practice and consists of three courses administered over the duration of one semester (approximately 17 weeks).
The three courses that comprise this non-credit certificate are:
MCR 901: Fundamental Mediation Skills and Techniques (3.5 CEU’s / 35 hours)
This comprehensive course will guide students through learning, applying and practicing fundamental skills in conflict resolution and mediation through course instruction, role playing, and simulations. Students will also attain a comprehension level understanding of legal nuts and bolts training essential to mediating litigated cases. Finally, students will learn case management processes, from intake to resolution, with various conflict resolution providers in the community.
MCR 902: Mediation Practicum (3.5 CEU’s / 35 hours)
This ancillary piece to XMCR 901 provides students with an opportunity to practice their mediation skills and training in “live” settings in the community. Students will synthesize these experiences with the skill set they have developed in XMCR 901 with a series of online submissions following each of their practicum sessions.
The objective of this practicum is for students to gain practical experience in the community and further refine their mediation skills and conflict resolution training developed through XMCR 901 and XMCR 909.
MCR 909: Diversity & Cross-Cultural Communications for Conflict Resolution (3 CEU’s / 30 hours)
This course will prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate with cross-cultural competence. They will learn and comprehend the underlying influences that culture and differences have on belief systems, perceptions, and communication styles. They will gain expertise in how to effectively bridge differences to discover common meaning and reach common goals.
