Frequently Asked Questions with Answers

Your questions are likely to be shared by others who are interested in the program. For your convenience, we have included answers to some of the most common questions here.

Q. How long does it take to go through the program?
A. Participants are given 3 years to complete the program – some finish in as little as 18 months.

Q. How long is the program?
A. Students must complete the six required courses. Elective courses are also offered to students, but not required.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. It costs $25 to apply to be part of the Certificate Program. Right now, each course is $225 – $295 per person. (Of course, fees are subject to change in the future). Additional expenses include parking fees and the cost of textbooks.

Q. When and where are the courses held?
A. Usually Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights, here on the CSUN campus.

Q. What are the requirements to be accepted into the program?
A. A high school degree or equivalent.

Q. Can I take courses without being in the Certificate Program?
A. Yes.

Q. If I take courses now, and later apply to the Certificate Program, will my past courses apply retroactively?
A. Yes. We encourage you to apply to the Certificate Program very early on, before you take more than two or three courses. By knowing how many students are in the program, The Tseng College is better able to plan our schedule. That means the courses you need to finish your Certificate will be available when you need them.

Q. Which course should I take first?
A. Introduction to Landscape Design is a prerequisite to all other courses in the program, so it must be taken first.
