CSUN’s
IDAD program, offered through a partnership of The Tseng College
of Extended Learning's "Distance Learning Systems Group"
with the Michael D. Eisner College of Education's
"Development, Learning, and Instruction Program,"
is taught entirely online by experienced faculty members.
The IDAD
program utilizes a cohort (group) model in which a group of
participants moves through the program together in a predetermined
sequence from the start of the program through fulfillment
of the degree requirements. The cohort approach is extremely
valuable because each succeeding course builds on what was
covered in earlier courses. Coursework is integrated and connected--rather
than simply a set of separate courses--so you are able to
see the larger view of the Instructional Design field and
how ID can inform and improve your seminars, presentations,
meetings, and courses.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) for 2006-2007, the job outlook for instructional designers “is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2014.” This indicates that employment opportunities for Instructional Designers are projected to increase 27 percent or more in the next seven years and a continuing emphasis on improving the quality of education is expected to result in an increasing demand for those trained for this occupation.
