Application Deadline
Applications will be reviewed and admission decisions will be made on a rolling basis from the time in which applications are received.

Applicants must submit the following 5 items items:

Online (1 item)
Both online application parts must be submitted no later than the application deadline date.

1. Online application, including a one-page statement of purpose describing and explaining the applicant’s interest in the CSUN M.A. in Humanities program and how enrollment in the program will contribute to the applicant’s personal and/or professional growth and success.
By Email (2 items):
Resumes must be submitted no later than the application deadline date.

3. A writing sample
Writing samples may include: a business letter or marketing materials you have drafted to represent your organization; a grant proposal you have written for work, school or as a volunteer; or a traditional college or university term paper, essay or research paper. Please contact Jennifer Kalfsbeek if you have questions regarding a writing sample submission.
To submit required application documents by e-mail, please send one e-mail with required documents attached (.doc, .rtf or pdf format) to humnapplications@csun.edu. Specify only your name, as it appears on your online application, in the subject line of your e-mail submission.
By Regular Mail (2 items):
All items sent by regular mail must be postmarked by the application deadline date.

4. Original or certified copies (one copy each) of all official academic records/transcripts (if you attended CSUN you need not submit CSUN transcripts)

5. Application fee of $55 (a nonrefundable check payable to “CSUN”)

To be admitted to the Humanities Program, applicants must possess (at the time of enrollment):

Educational BackgroundCumulative G.P.A.English Proficiency Requirements for International Applicants
Bachelor’s degree in any major from a an accredited university or college 3.0 (last 60 semester / 90 quarter units)

OR

2.5 (last 60 semester / 90 quarter units) and GRE score, in one section of the test, in the upper 50th percentile. GRE scores are not required if your GPA is 3.0 higher.
Applicants whose language of instruction was not English, are required to take one of the following placement exams:
TOEFL – Minimum scores accepted:
Paper-Based test: 550,
Computer Based test: 213,
Internet-based test: 79
IELTS – Minimum score of 6 or higher.

Other

Applicants may be asked to participate in an interview with the Academic Director of the Humanities Master of Arts Program and/or the faculty admissions committee.

Please note: Students will be admitted to the Master of Arts in Humanities following the approval in Spring 2009 of this new degree by the CSU Chancellor’s Office.
