Required Courses (25.8 continuing education units):
XHRM 901: Recruitment, Selection and Placement (3 CEUs)
A vital aspect of human resources is staff planning and development, while maintaining an optimum workforce size with the most qualified people. In this course, you will gain critical insights about interviewing, background checking and hiring; EEO and affirmative action requirements; and seeking outside applicants vs. promoting from within.
XHRM 902: Compensation and Incentive Systems (3.6 CEUs)
Effective compensation design and administration play a crucial role in attracting and retaining a highly qualified, motivated and productive work force and advancing the organization’s business objectives. This course provides an in-depth investigation of the principles, techniques and strategies used to develop and implement direct and indirect compensation programs and reward systems that are equitable, cost effective and legally compliant.
XHRM 904: Performance Management (3 CEUs)
Human resources departments are called on to make measurable contributions to their organization’s bottom line. This course reviews the role of H.R. in helping an organization maximize productivity and profitability through a comprehen¬sive, effective performance appraisal and management system.
XHRM 905: Labor and Employment Law (3.6 CEUs)
The effective H.R. practitioner must be familiar with the many federal, state and local laws that define and regulate employment. In this course, you will review a wide range of relevant laws and discuss principles, polices and procedure necessary for effective labor-management relations, from both labor and manage¬ment points of view.
XHRM 906: Workers’ Compensation in California – History, Law and Application (3.6 CEUs)
More and more companies seek qualified professionals to manage their workers’ compensation programs. In this course, you will receive up-to-the-minute information concerning compensation, injury, benefits, managed care, vocational rehabilitation, loss control, medical/legal issues and more.
XHRM 908: Employee Benefits and Services (3 CEUs)
Explore the use of benefits and services to attract and retain employees who match your company’s vision. You will review the history and philosophy of benefits and services and learn why this area has become so competitive and how to create and administer a benefits and services program.
XHRM 909: Diversity in the Workplace (3 CEUs)
In this course you will consider the many employment laws related to workforce diversity, one of the most sensitive challenges faced by an H.R. professional.
XHRM 915: The Business of Human Resources Management (3 CEUs)
An organization’s success rests largely on its most valuable asset – its human capital – and this asset is managed through human resources. To serve the needs of the organization, the H.R. practitioner must know and understand both the business and the industry. This “business of management” course covers everything from reading and analyzing financial statements to strategies for keeping the firm moving toward its stated objectives.

XHRM 903: Training and Organizational Development (1.8 CEUs)
Human resources professionals are called on to enhance and sustain job performance and implement organiza¬tional changes. In this course, you will review the interrelated human resources management activities involved in change initiatives to arrive at a conceptual and practical understanding of methods and strategies essential to effective training and development programs.
XHRM 910: Strategic Leadership for Human Resources (1.8 CEUs)
The secret of most successful H.R. professionals lies in partnering with company leadership in the strategic pro¬cess. This class will help H.R. practitioners learn and build critical influencing and “internal consulting” skills.
XHRM 911: Employee Retention Strategies (1.8 CEUs)
Employee turnover is costly. This dynamic course presents effective ways to lower that cost by improving an organization’s employee retention rate. Your strategic thinking will involve consideration of the factors that influence an employee’s decision to stay with a company.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and grades are awarded on completion of each course, whether the student is working toward the Certificate or taking classes for individual credit. The program was designed to be completed in one year; applicants who expect to need more time to complete their coursework will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
