Welcome to the Intensive English Program at California State Northridge.

The Intensive English Program (IEP) offers instruction at nine English proficiency levels, ranging from beginning to advanced.

Advanced Levels
Students acquire a high degree of English fluency and communicate easily in work, social, or American university settings.

Intermediate Levels
Students improve their English fluency, practice basic techniques for university study, and become comfortable in a variety of communicative situations.

Beginning Levels
Student develop basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

IEP Courses

Required Courses provide instruction in all language skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. (15 hours/week)

Elective Courses are offered in areas such as Pronunciation, TOEFL Preparation, Grammar, Conversation, Street Talk (slang), and Vocabulary. (5 hours/week)

Activity Courses provide students the opportunity to study subjects of interest and practice English, including such topics as American Films and Culture, TOEFL preparation, and Business. (3-12 hours/week)

Advanced level students may substitute optional University Credit Courses for one or more of their English courses, and begin work toward an undergraduate or graduate degree.

PLEASE NOTE: DATES AND COSTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS The CSUN housing fee includes utilities costs, Resident Hall Association membership and a Meal Plan of a 10- meal per week and $19 "Dining Dollars" per week which may be used at various eateries and convenience stores on campus. The Housing & Meal plan fee is due PRIOR to check-in at CSUN Housing. Housing space cannot be guaranteed unless 1) tuition for the term is paid in full, and 2) a completed housing contract with full payment is received. The housing contract is available at tsengcollege.csun.edu/IEP/Housing/housing.html Housing check-in date is the day before Orientation, check-out date is the day after End Date. The IEP application deadline for out-of-country applicants is one month prior to orientation date. The Intensive English Program tuition and application fee are due when submitting the application. All Semester at CSUN students must enroll in at least 12 units of classes per semester.
